DS977 - Doctor in Special Care Dentistry (DrSCD)
The course provides comprehensive knowledge and training in Special Care Dentistry based on the professional and ethical standards. The candidates will be exposed to different and current Special Care Dentistry theories and treatment modalities and will be exposed to in-depth knowledge of Special Care Dentistry diagnosis and treatment concepts. Candidates will have lectures, seminars and practical sessions from Semester 1, onwards.
Clinical Special Care Dentistry training includes treatment of patients in faculty clinics and external premises under the supervision of Special Care Dentistry specialists and consultants, as well as specialists in other relevant fields. Candidates are also required to perform supervision session in the undergraduate clinic about once a week.
Candidates are also to complete a dissertation, which is worthy of publication or a publishable manuscript. In addition, candidates undertake two assignment projects which are 1) clinical audit and 2) innovation.

To be admitted into the doctorate programme, applicants are required to fulfil all the minimum requirements below:
- Qualifications
A bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Dentistry from local and international universities.
AND
A Master of Science in Dentistry (MScD), UiTM or equivalent (Level 7) with the component of foundation studies appropriate for special care dentistry.
AND
- Service
A minimum of two (2) years of clinical practice after bachelor’s or equivalent degree excluding the Master’s training.
AND
- Professional bodies
Registered with the MDC and holds a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC) or registered with the dental regulatory body in another country and eligible to be granted a Temporary Practicing Certificate (TPC) by the MDC.
AND
- Language proficiency tests
Fulfil English competency requirements for non-Malaysian applicants who obtain qualifications from Universities or Higher Education Institutes outside of Malaysia (any ONE of the followings): - Achieve a minimum a band score of 6.5 or band according to the program standard in the International English Language System (IELTS).
OR
- Achieve a minimum score of 600 (paper-based test); or score of 250 (computer-based test) or score of 100 (online test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
- Interviews
Pass the intake interview when necessary (other than UiTM level 7 programme).Appendix B

- Other admission requirements
Fulfil the requirements for admission as prescribed by the faculty.

Fulfil health and other requirements required by the HEP.
