Students Affairs, Faculty of Dentistry, UiTM

The main scope of Student Affairs in the faculty focuses on welfare, comfort and the security to the students. Student’s activities are also coordinated through Dental Students Association (DENSA) and Secretariat Mahasiswa Fakulti (SMF) to ensure students fulfil both spiritual and worldly needs and expose to the reality of the life beyond.

 


Dental Student Association (DENSA)

Dental Student Association has been established at Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) since 2006. The students’ association also known as DENSA, exists to represent all dental undergraduate students of UiTM and conducts various activities ranging from academic, social, religious and community service.

The executive committee members for 2018/2019 are as follows:

Programmes for the year include Team Building, Pre-Intervarsity Game 2017, OPKIM 1.0 : Gotong Royong Perdana Sek Keb Sg. Buloh, OPKIM 2.0 : “Hold My Hand”, Sek Men Pendidikan Khas (Cacat Penglihatan) Setapak, Intervarsity Game IVG 2017), Brush Hour & Bazaria, Ihya Ramadhan and New Student Orientation Week (2017/2018).

 

     
    

 

Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar (MPP)

The role of the MPP is to assist the faculty in delivering information to students more effectively. In addition, the Student Representative Council is also a platform for the university to obtain information and information that the students wish to convey to faculty and university management. Besides being a student representative, UiTM MPP is also responsible for being UiTM's representative internationally as UiTM ambassador. Various activities and programs of either private or organizational collaboration have been carried out such as community service activities, sports, academics and even involving local, state and federal government bodies directly or indirectly including partial government and non-goverment organization.

Sekretariat Mahasiswa Fakulti (SMF)

SMF was set up at the faculty in 2015. The committee is tasked to assist Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar (MPP) runs activities together with other faculties and establish networking on matters of common interest. For 2018-2019:

Planned activities for the year include corporate society responsibility and academic visit to the Faculty of Dentistry University of Andalas Padang, Indonesia, movie nights, joint committee with DENSA for Wirasa 2017 and Inter-SMF bond.

 

 

Red Crescent Society

Red Crescent society is a compulsory co-curricular activity for all dental students. Students are exposed to experimental learning in basics of medical care especially during the critical situation. Besides, they will learn communication, teamwork and leadership skills along the activities. The activities are organized every Saturday in their first academic year and an assessment of theory and practical skills is done at the end of course.

 

Alumni

The secretariat for Faculty of Dentistry Alumni is based at the Faculty. It was established in Mei 2012 after the graduation of it first cohort in 2011. It was then headed by Dr Anas Ramadan. For 2014 the President id Dr Mohd Shah Affendy . The Alumni group has participated in the yearly Program Selangkah Pro and contributed financially to some of the students activities.

ACCOMMODATION

University residential college policy is to provide accommodation, food and a comfortable learning environment, happy and safe for all students. All students are encouraged to abide by the rules and regulations to ensure the comfort and harmony within the residential colleges. Since the movement of the Faculty of Dentistry UiTM to Sungai Buloh Campus in September 2015, the 315 students are now residing in RC2 for the boys and a new residential block RC3 for the girls.

 

 

FINANCIAL AIDS

Students may apply for financial aids ( education loans or sponsorship) offered by various government bodies such as Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam Malaysia (JPA),Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Nasional (PTPTN), Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) or any trust funds or any private sectors.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

 

Mobile Dental Clinic (MDC)

Mobile Dental Clinic (MDC) is a mobile clinic in which is equipped with the latest dental equipment. MDC is organized by the Dr.Nik Mohd Mazuan Nik Mohd Rosdy . Dental Mobile Clinic (MDC) which has commenced operations since June 2011. During the Mobile Dental Clinic (MDC), has moved to 22 points, including campus - UiTM campuses throughout Peninsular Malaysia. The students brought together to experience and practice their learning and at the same time giving them the opportunity to serve the local community.

 

 

Khidmat Masyarakat Kesihatan UiTM - Yayasan Bank Rakyat

Community Health Services Program organized by UiTM with the Bank Rakyat Foundation was held in three states at once that in Kampung Pasir Panjang Laut, Setiawan Perak, Kampung Bukit Pulau, Bukit Baru Melaka and Kampung Simpang Pelangai, Bentong Pahang from 25 to 27 November 2011. The program was attended by five faculties: Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Science and Health and Faculty of Sport and Recreation. Throughout the program various events have included health fairs and health screening. Faculty of Dentistry student involvement indirectly gave them valuable experience and can give confidence to students to face the outside community as well to practice the theory learned.

 

 

Projek Bakti Murni KPT, Wilayah Raja Alias Negeri Sembilan

On 30 September 2011 to October 1, 2011, a total of 16 students from the Faculty of Dentistry have been invited to join the Projek Bakti Murni KPT in Wilayah Raja Alias Negeri Sembilan. This program was organized by the Asia Pacific University College of Technology and Innovation (UCTI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Government of Negeri Sembilan and Felda. This program includes the participation of several institutions of higher learning, including Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (The University), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), National Defense University Malaysia (UPNM), Cyberjaya University College of Medicine (CUCMS) and several Polytechnics and community colleges.

 

 

Kemahiran Insaniah (KI)

KI is a structured program of lectures, small group discussions among students and activities designed to produce undergraduates with an ideal personality (Towering Personality). This program also concentrates on student’s development program based on the skills needed to improve the marketability and preparation of students to face the world of work. It covers aspects of generic skills that involve psychomotor elements related to non-academic skills such as soft skill development, knowledge and skill in communication, critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, leadership, positive values and continuous learning. It is an approach introduced by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOE) to develop human capital and producing graduates who possess and the marketability of high level.

This program is now delivered during Pemantapan Destini Siswa (PDS) and later on during last two semesters of the study in Module Finishing School (MFS). It is conducted by trained facilitators. Evaluation and assessment either as individual or peer group conducted for the module. The results of the assessment are carried out through the integration of data collection marks as a whole, involving all the components and uploaded into a database that is developed online called soft skills (e-KI) (Ref: Pekeliling TNC Bahagian HEP Bil 17/2013). Students are made compulsory to attend a program of soft skills module by the university's recruitment plans. Failure to do so allows the student to disciplinary action under Rule 24, Part II, and General Discipline in the Rules of Educational Institutions (Discipline of Students) Rules 1976. NLP is also conducted as part of MFS. Contents of NLP as is Summarised.

 

 

Mentor Mentee

Mentoring is a means of providing help, guidance, and support to the students by the lecturers. A mentor is a volunteer role model, or leader, who is committed and consistent in maintaining the relationship with his or her students through mentoring. Each lecturer is assigned to look after ten (10) students until they graduate. A total of 30 lecturers have been appointed as Mentors for the Faculty. The report is submitted to Academic Faculty Meeting for attention and action. As of September 2016, the number of mentees was reduced to five per lecturer.
