DS972 - Doctor in Orthodontics (DrOrtho)

The course provides comprehensive knowledge and training in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics based on the professional and ethical standards. The candidates will be exposed to different and current orthodontic theories and treatment modalities and will be exposed to in depth knowledge of orthodontic diagnosis and treatment concepts. Candidates will have lectures, seminars and practical sessions to allow for better understanding and wider scope of learning.

Clinical Orthodontics includes treatment of patients in faculty clinics and premises under supervision of orthodontist specialists and consultants. Candidates are required to treat 80 new patients with fixed orthodontic appliances and on average about 20 transferred cases, which may include patients with myofunctional appliances and interdisciplinary cases that may involve orthognathic surgery. The total number of cases will be approximately 100-120 patients.

  • A completed and approved research proposal (Research Design course in MScD)
  • Accepted for publication of at least ONE article in a peer-reviewed journal

Candidates are required to pass both courses before being awarded with the stated qualification.

 Minimum Requirement
  • BDS or equivalent
  • 2 years clinical experience of continuous clinical work experience after graduation from dental school
  • Pass Master of Science in Dentistry (MScD) or any equivalent qualification endorsed by Senate, UiTM
 Research proposal
 Other Requirement
  • 2 referee reports
  • Passed entrance interview and prescribed test
  • Registrable with MDC for local and approved by senate for overseas to practice in the faculty
  • IELTS Average Band 6.5
    (minimum Band 6.5 for every part)

 Valuable aspects for consideration
  • Successful completion of the Primary Examinations of the Royal College of Surgeons (England), Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties (MJDS) or equivalent
  • Postgraduate degree involving clinical training
  • Applicants who have obtained full MFDS/MJDF may request for exemption of Core Medical & Oral Sciences examination
 Evidence in research publications would be highly regarded
 
Health Status :
Applicants to clinical programmes need to provide evidence to the University that they are free from Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C upon acceptance into the programme.
