DS702 - Master of Science (Dental Public Health)
This is a taught postgraduate degree awarded following the satisfactory completion of a full-time programme of study in research, theories application and clinical management related to the advancement of Dental Public Health Speciality.
This is a one year full time coursework programme. The course provides comprehensive knowledge and theories in Dental Public Health. The candidates will be exposed to in depth knowledge in concept of public health, epidemiology, oral health promotion, oral health related quality of life, evidence based practice, health economics and health care system.
This course is also designed to develop knowledge about public health, determinants of health, and the scientific and professional leadership skills to translate this knowledge into effective dental public health interventions. This course includes lectures, seminars, practical sessions and journal club.

The students should be able to steer and acquire basic scientific research skills along with a scientific approach in problem solving. By the end of Semester 2, the students are required to submit their dissertation for final examination. They should be able to complete a dissertation, which is worthy of publication or a publishable manuscript. The list is non-exhaustive act as a checklist to ensure the widest coverage of Dental Public Health concept and theory.
Continuous assessment will be evaluated throughout the year in the form of semester tests, home assignments and seminars.
The MScDPH programme is a course work project with research occupying 30% (maximum) of total program time. This project may be a new and independent one or be a discrete part of an existing research program. Another 70% comes from the coursework of the programme which address the requirement in training dental professionals with advanced knowledge and skills in Dental Public Health.
The programme of study shall consist of Core courses (Multidisciplinary Health Sciences, Research Design and Biostatistic) together with the MScDPH programme courses and a programme of supervised research, leading to the submission of a dissertation. The MScDPH courses, Professional Examination, continuous assessments and the dissertation must each be completed satisfactorily or passed.

The candidate shall, before commencing the dissertation to be described in the research proposal presentation, secure the approval of the Faculty of Dentistry for the topic chosen and the supervisors.

Full time only. Minimum 2 parts (1 year); maximum 4 parts (2 years). Each part consists of 21 weeks of academic schedule, with total of 42 weeks per year excluding of examination weeks.
